“Happy New DAY”

January 2012

Yes, it’s the start of another New Year and it seems like a lot of my friends wanted to know how I celebrated on New Year’s Eve. Well, to be honest I don’t really celebrate at midnight on January 1st.  Ok, this year I did manage to stay awake until about 12:05 a.m. but that is very rare. Many times on New Year’s Eve I’m glad that I live in the Central US time zone because I only have to stay up until 11:00 p.m. CT to watch the ball drop in NYC. I must admit that I don’t get too excited about New Year’s Eve… well, come to think of it, I don’t get too excited about many holidays or special days.

Now before you start to think I’m just an uncaring, unfeeling, fuddy-duddy, please let me explain…

I don’t believe that I need a specific day to set my goals for the future. I don’t need a specific date on the calendar to reflect upon my past failures or celebrate my successes. I don’t need confetti, funny hats and noise makers to remind me to appreciate the terrific people that have blessed my life.

You have dreams, goals and passions, right? My passion is teaching people how to make better decisions in life so that they become the best person that they can possibly become. You don’t need a date on the calendar to do that.

So, today, I’d like to encourage you to start THIS DAY!  Start being a better you TODAY than you were yesterday.  It’s not about setting big scary goals. It’s about making tiny shifts every day to move yourself closer to where you want to be and who you want to become.

Choose this day to do one thing that will improve your health.
Choose tomorrow to do one thing that will improve your relationships.
Choose next week to do one thing to improve your career.

You get the picture, right?

Once you’ve made that choice, don’t spend more and more time thinking about it. And especially if you don’t feel like doing it after you made your decision, remember that you already made the decision and there is no need to make the decision again. Be better today than you were yesterday and be a little better tomorrow than you were today.

Treat EVERY DAY as if it is a New Year’s Day, because it is!

Every day is a day worth celebrating.
Every day is a day to vow to be better.
Every day is a day to reflect on your past mistakes.
Every day is a day to celebrate your successes.
Every day is a day to tell your loved ones that you love them.
Every day is a day to let YOU know how special YOU are.

“Good habits are the key to all success.”

By doing these things daily, you will create habits. These habits will propel you to great heights in your career, your business, and your life. New Year’s is a good reminder to do these things, but the people who make it a habit to do them more often are the people who have the things we want.  The people who do these things daily are the people that we admire and want to follow. This year, how about you be that leader?  Why don’t you show those around you what can happen if you reflect daily and plan daily and bring your best to each day?

As Og Mandino says in his classic book, The Greatest Salesman in the World:

As a child I was slave to my impulses; now I am slave to my habits, as are all grown men. I have surrendered my free will to the years of accumulated habits and the past deeds of my life have already marked out a path which threatens to imprison my future. My actions are ruled by appetite, passion, prejudice, greed, love, fear, environment, habit, and the worst of these tyrants is habit. Therefore, if I must be a slave to habit let me be a slave to good habits. My bad habits must be destroyed and new furrows prepared for good seed.

I will form good habits and become their slave.

When you live your life, treat your team, run your business, do your job as if it were a special gift that is worthy of celebrating, you will not only add value and bring joy to this world, you will become the best person that you can become.

Create the habit of reflecting and planning every day. It’s the little things in life that will steer you toward the big blessings and successes.

Happy New Day!!

Want to learn how EASY it can be to form New Habits?

There is a secret and it can be find in the principles and practices of neuro-axiology.

You can see it in action by trying our new assessment called the VQ Profile. It will give you a “taste test” of how these principles can be used to improve the way that you THINK!

No doubt, you’ve heard of IQ. It stands for “Intelligence Quotient,” which is a  measure of one’s capacity to learn or understand. You may have even heard of EQ which stands for “Emotional intelligence Quotient”. EQ refers to one’s ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions. What, then, is a VQ?

VQ stands for “Value-judgment intelligence Quotient.” It’s an objective way to measure and quantify your current capacity to make good value judgments, i.e. your valuing habits.

When you use your VQ strengths, forming new habits is easier than trying to “fix” your weaknesses.

Go ahead, give this new assessment a try! There’s no cost and I’ll even give you a free 20 minute consultation to show you how it works in your life.
